An evil witch cast a spell on 18-year-old Sophie, turning her into a decrepit old woman. Once in the body of an elderly woman, the heroine leaves her hometown, not knowing where to go. Soon, she stumbles upon an extraordinary dwelling standing on chicken legs, where her paths cross with a powerful magician named Howl and a fiery demon named Calcifer. A contract has been concluded between Calcifer and Howl, according to which the demon is obliged to serve the sorcerer, but the details of their agreement remain a secret. Realizing that they both want to free themselves from the shackles – Sophie from the curse, and Calcifer from his obligations – the heroine and the demon join forces to find a way to break the spell.
