March 2018, Afghanistan. During an anti-terrorist operation, American soldier John Kinley and his group fall into a trap of Taliban militants. Among the survivors are only the wounded Sergeant Kinley and the Afghan translator Ahmed, who worked for the American side. Returning to the United States, John cannot recall the details of his rescue, but soon realizes that it was Ahmed who saved his life, who dragged him through the danger zone. The overwhelming sense of guilt pushes Kinley to take a risky step: he goes back to Afghanistan to save his friend and his family, who are now in mortal danger due to the increased search by the Taliban.
